The exhibition presents the leading representatives, chiefs, and commanders of individual units of the National Security Corps: Public and State Security and the Ministry of the Interior’s troops, who intervened during the extraordinary security operation on November 17, 1989, against student demonstrations on Národní třída and in its vicinity. Under the command of Lt. Col. JUDr. Michal Daniševič, commander of the “Student” security operation, the following units took part in the intervention: the school emergency unit of Maj. Bedřich Houbal with four reserves, supplemented by selected members of the StB internal intelligence service; the emergency regiment of the Czechoslovak People’s Police under Lt. Col. JUDr. Břetislav Zdráhala with three battalions; and the anti-terrorist unit of the Special Purpose Department of the Ministry of the Interior’s Military Administration, led by Maj. JUDr. Petr Šesták. Let us remember the faces of the representatives of the repressive forces who were jointly responsible for the brutal suppression of the student demonstrations that led to the fall of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia in 1989.
