Marek Gult: Express / 1.6.2025 – 31.7.2025
Optical illusion and rich neon colours inspired by the underwater world define this collection of works by Marek Gult called Express. The artist has long been concerned with the influence of artistic illusion on the viewer’s subconscious, subtly playing with the viewer’s attention, which in some cases can be unnerving. And that is exactly what he is after – the emotions evoked take us out of our comfort zone and force us to look at things from a different angle.
However, it is not only the subject matter that makes the viewer nervous, but above all the form of the performance. His works can mesmerise, disturb or even upset. In any case, however, they leave no one indifferent. They stimulate the viewer to reflection and internal dialogue. And this is perhaps the most important goal for the artist in today’s hectic and consumerist times.
Marek Gult is a painter, theatre set designer and set designer who spends much of his life underwater – mostly in tropical seas. It is from here that he draws inspiration for his unique palette of sharp, neon and often vibrant colour combinations that are integral to the visual illusion of his work.
“I am addicted to the sun’s rays penetrating below the surface, changing the spectrum of colours into millions of other, unknown shades,” says the author.
For inspiration and colours he sets out from his native Prague, where he was born. The exhibition at the Rock Café is a matter of the heart for him – this was the first music club he regularly visited in his hometown.
The opening will take place on Monday 16 June at 7pm in the Rock Café gallery.
