The band Vasilův Rubáš started performing on the Prague scene in 2003. It became widely known thanks to its victory in the Porta International Interpretation Competition in 2012, and since then it has been one of the stalwarts of alternative music festivals. She has also performed at major events such as Rock for People and Colours of Ostrava. She tends to a wide range of styles, from folk to punk. One of the members is close to business and advertising, the other to information technology.
Together, they form a folk-reggae-punk duo, which, in addition to its witty lyrics and melodies, is also known for its comical performances. Filip “Vasilděda” Novák is the author of most of the songs and besides singing he plays accordion and acoustic guitar. Petr “Ruby” Rubáš, in addition to singing and sound effects, is proficient on the traditional African djembe drums, but has also performed with a Renaissance music ensemble. Interestingly, Vasil Rubáš has his rehearsal room in the atomic shelter, in an apartment building in Prague’s Holešovice.
