Psychedelia, stoner rock, and traditional Greek music—all this is brought to you by Villagers of Ioannina City, who will also be visiting Prague and Bratislava as part of their European tour! Are you interested in the connection between tradition and psychedelic visionary art? Then this concert is for you!
Villagers of Ioannina City is a Greek rock band from the Epirus region, famous for its original combination of psychedelic rock, stoner rock, and traditional Greek folk music. Their work draws on the rich cultural heritage of the region, where melodies played on the clarinet, flute, and lute have been preserved for centuries, and transforms them into a modern context of electric guitars, dense riffs, and hypnotic rhythms. The result is a sound that is both ancient and futuristic, spiritual and energetic — reminiscent of both a ritual ceremony and postmodern concert ecstasy.
The band was formed in 2007 and has gradually built up a cult status not only in Greece but also on the European scene. Their seminal album Age of Aquarius (2019) presented a fully mature sound — majestic, melancholic and rousing, with lyrics reflecting spiritual quests and the connection between man and nature and the universe. Villagers of Ioannina City have managed to combine old Balkan motifs with the aesthetics of modern progressive rock and stoner so convincingly that they have gained fans across genres and generations. Live, they are known for their intense, almost trance-like performances that transcend the boundaries of the ordinary concert experience.
