A triptych of archival footage shows how Czechoslovakia dealt with the most widespread addictions during the socialist era. Alcoholism had been openly discussed since the 1950s, but the overall attitude towards drinking gradually changed, with a fundamental shift occurring during perestroika. During the same period, attitudes toward smoking, which had been commonly tolerated in almost all public places for decades, also changed. The most complicated situation was with drugs. For a long time, they were presented only as a problem of the West, and when the state admitted that drug addiction also existed in our country, it was almost too late. The clips feature Jiřina Bohdalová as an abstinence teacher, Jiří Bartoška as a singing dealer, and many others in dramatic, documentary, journalistic, and news productions from the archives of Czechoslovak Television. The program will be hosted by Jakub Adamus and Jakub Hošek (ČT archives and program funds).
