Lenka Kozlíková: Unspoken
“If they could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint.”
(Edward Hopper)
With the exhibition UNSPOKEN, the Czech painter Lenka Kozlíková presents 2 of the lines of her work. The opening will take place on Monday 29th July at 20:00 in the gallery in Rock Café.
The first one is a selection of the artist’s work from 2022 – 2024.
The second line presents a set of completely unique paintings that are referential in their content to the Rock Café.
Lenka has studied historical records of its history and development, and since she is an artist who publicly admits her addiction to music and for whom music is an inseparable part of her autonomous creative process, the second part of the exhibited canvases covers these references.
Both lines are permeated by a dense abstract expression with a touch of poetics and symbolism, creating a rich tapestry of meaning with a transcendental overlap.
Lenka Kozlíková
Czech painter, living in Prague.
Originally trained as a lawyer (Charles University, UCC Ireland), she has been active on the Czech and international art scene since 2019.
She is often classified as an abstract expressionist, but her portfolio includes many works combining abstract expression with elements of realistic painting. Ideologically, her work is also close to the principles of Symbolism. Thus, any classification offers a rather tentative glimpse into the individual and unbridled creative essence of this artist. Her dominant artistic expression is painting. In the past, however, she has also been involved in the creation of sculpture (the Manipulation project in collaboration with Luxembourg artist Thierry Funck) and since 2022 she has also been working with graphic techniques, now mainly lithography.
Her canvases always capture and elaborate on a currently turbulent theme for her. She skillfully weaves symbolism, puns, references to mythology and philosophical questions into her artworks. Moreover, Lenka creates principally to music and believes that this element is also subliminally woven into her paintings. Some of the paintings that will be on display at Rock Café were directly inspired by our club and its history.
In addition to painting, she also dabbles in the written word, composing poems and recording various reflections, further enriching and complementing her work.
Lenka Kozlíková’s work is represented in private collections in a number of European countries, the USA and New Zealand. One of her works is owned by Jane Goodall, a prominent English biologist who is involved in research on primate chimpanzees.
Since 2022, Lenka Kozlíková has been an honorary member of the board of the Czech and Slovak Writers’ Club, z. s. In 2024, 2 titles were published on the Czech literary scene (Miloň Čepelka: Josefové, Kateřina Brožková: Klínové písmo), for which Lenka created large-format paintings that were subsequently used as illustrations in the book, which testifies to her ability to bring a unique visual dimension and artistic value to literary works.
